Visual Social Media – The New Trend

According to an article on Clickz, a trend in social media is emerging that businesses cannot afford to overlook.  Social networks and web content are becoming more and more visual.  The more visual the content, the more it is being used.

Is is obvious in the virtual world that images are the key to breaking through the clutter of social media.  Due to the fact that 88 percent of businesses are now on social networks, it is more important than ever for businesses to develop a marketing strategy that attracts the audience they are trying to target.

The quickest growing social networks and applications are visual.  A visual new app called, Flipboard, was the number one application when the iPad launched.  Two of the fastest growing social networks: Pinterest and Instagram, both focus on visual communications.

Consider these statistics:

  • Blog posts with images generate more traffic.
  • Recruiters judge your LinkedIn profile more by the photo than the content.
  • Images on Facebook generate more reach, views, and interactions.
  • The most shared and clicked-on links on Twitter are images.

According to the article on Clickz, we communicate more information faster with images vs. text.  Because there is a lot of information online, images break through the words and immediately and quickly communicate messages. Our brains are naturally drawn to the content that gets the message across quickly.

Images are highly viewed, engaged with, shared, and clicked on in social networks. Images are leading social content for sharing, therefore,  businesses that want their website content shared across visual social networks, need to have a strong image strategy.

According to the article, there are three main opportunities for marketers to take advantage of this trend.

    1. Optimize your social content to break through the clutter with images.
    2. Join some of the fastest growing image social networks.
    3. Include highly relevant images on all of the pages on your website.
